A Symphony of Sights, Sounds, and Flavors in Kumamoto

というビール、Modelo(モデロ)を注文。

This trip to Kumamoto was all inspired by one thing—the Koji Tamaki Symphonic Concert. And now, it’s time for the main event!

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the concert series. I heard that Koji Tamaki first started this journey when he was seeking a new direction as an artist and decided to take on the challenge of performing with a full orchestra.

A few years ago, my older brother went to the concert alone and told me how amazing it was. He also said, “You never know when this series will end, so if you get the chance, you should go.”

That chance finally came.

Held at the Kumamoto-jo Hall (Main Hall), the concert began with a performance by the Kyushu Symphony Orchestra, opening with some classical masterpieces.

The stage darkened, and a silver-haired man quietly walked in from the wings.

It was Koji Tamaki.

Without saying a word, he began to sing as the music started.

He performed iconic songs like “Searchlight,” “MR. LONELY,” “Ikanaide,” and “JUNKLAND.” His voice, filled with emotion, captivated a wide range of fans across generations.

For the climax, the orchestra played Beethoven’s “Pastoral” overture.

As I listened, I suddenly heard the familiar tune of Tamaki’s own song “Denen (Pastoral)” woven into the performance.

The rhythm picked up, the atmosphere soared.

“I kicked a stone and cried under the sunset…”

That familiar lyric, that beloved song—being sung live right before my eyes was overwhelming.

Koji Tamaki’s voice and the orchestra’s music blended into one, becoming pure, living sound.

It was a truly breathtaking experience.

◼︎Dinner with a Mexican Twist

After the emotional concert, we decided to try something we rarely get in Miyazaki—international cuisine!

We headed to Tortacos, a cozy Mexican restaurant a bit outside the city center. The chef was from Mexico and cooked right there in the kitchen.

We ordered Modelo, a classic Mexican beer.

Alongside it came guacamole with chips, chilaquiles, burritos, and tacos—each one truly Delicioso!

◼︎Kumamoto Ramen the Next Day

The next day, we went for lunch at the famous Kokutei, a well-known Kumamoto ramen shop.

We saw comedians Ginshari visit it on YouTube and had to try it ourselves.

Kumamoto-style ramen features rich tonkotsu (pork bone) broth, topped with fragrant fried garlic and a raw egg.

The combination of the creamy egg and the roasted garlic soaked perfectly into the noodles—absolutely unforgettable.

◼︎Sweet Ending at Princess Tart

To wrap up the trip, we visited Princess Tart Kumamoto, a shop I’d seen often on Instagram.

I enjoyed a seasonal fruit tart that was as beautiful as it was delicious, and then it was time to head home.

◼︎A Journey Full of Flavor and Music

This trip was a blend of moving music and unforgettable food—

Kumamoto touched my heart and taste buds.
